Hiking in the Cabrera Montain Range, combines incredible summits and historic places in the Guadarrama Range.

At the western end it is the highest summit (El Cancho Gordo) and on its slopes stands the San Julián Monastery and San Antonio, unique example of Romanesque in the Autonomous Community of Madrid.

From this interesting cultural spot we will ascend to Cerro Gordo (1563 m), which is our mountaineer’s goal and following a circular route.

We will also visit the archaeological complex of the Castro Arévaco, dated two thousand five hundred years ago.

The Celtic people of the Arévacos populated the center of the Iberian peninsula and in Cancho de la Cabeza found a steep vantage point that facilitated the defense.

Finishing the route in the convent, there is the possibility of visiting the church and gardens where remains a Romanesque cloister.

Small groups: max. 12 people.

Meeting point: 8:10 at MEDRANDA coffee bar located at 221 Paseo de la Castellana, very close to the Plaza de Castilla Square.

It is easy to park at the beginning of the BUS lane. At 9:00 am in the parking lot next to the Monastery of San Julián and San Antonio.

Slope: 730 meters.

Duration: the route will last 4.30 to 5.00 hours for the circular route, including the ascent to the summit of Cerro Gordo. You must add 1, oo hour for stops and breaks.

Route length: 11, 2 km.

Difficulty: Moderate. The highest slopes are concentrated at the top to the top of the Cancho Gordo, the way back runs along traditional or easy paths.

Route: Circular route with departure and arrival in the Convent of San Julián and San Antonio. We will walk along trails and paths of the GR-10 and PR-13.>

Material: Lightweight backpack, hiking boots, fleece jacket, sun protection, water and picnic.

Recommendations: Una gorra y gafas de sol. Un par de bastones facilitaran la marcha tanto en las subidas como en las bajadas.

Recommendations: A cap and sunglasses. A pair of walking poles will make it easier for you to climb up and down.
